Testing graduated neutral density filter – Rollei GND Filter

By this photo i tested the graduation only for the sky. That is the normal use to bring the contrast between the dark light and the high light closer together. So that you see still the clouds in the sky.

In the next photo i tried to see what happen, when i put the darker side of the graduated density deeper in the motive. As you can see, the light looks unnatural. It looks, if i use a flash for the street in the forground. The middle- and background are darker than the forground a typical flat flash lighting. But not for that theme. For that you had to build up a line of more realy strong flashes.

An interesting result. You have to look twice to notice the unnatural lighting. Sometimes when thunder is coming up, you see a similar lighting. Only the clouds in the sky shows it doesn´t work for a thunder.

ITFS 2017 – Festival of Animated Film – Internationales Trickfilm Festival

The crazy time passed by.

From last Tuesday on I worked for SCHAWA MEDIA at the International Trickfilm Festival / Festival of Animated Film.
My job was to create the daily video clip. To show what happened at the day. The Trailer was shown the next day as a kind of summary.
I was switching between my camera-team and the editor. It was real long days. With my editor we worked from 12pm to 4 or 5am. Puh.

I did it – Music Clip Imagine Dragons

The final timeline of the Adobe Premiere Competition with the material from IMAGINE DRAGONS

Friday night I uploaded my final music clip editing. It is the 25 years Adobe Premiere Competition. You downloaded the video material of the shooting from IMAGINE DRAGONS and do your own cut.
My idea and aim was to show a new interpretation of the song text and the video material. I did use After Effect or other possibilities. I concentrated on the edit and the mood of the pics. I’m satisfied with my result.

Now Adobe has to watch every single clip. Than they will judge the 25  finalist. Let’s see was happen. It was a great experience to work with such good material. And find my way of the visual song interpretation.

I keep you informed what happens.

London Art Gallery – framing of a painted picture

The next fascinating picture. When i saw it, immediately it remembered me at the EDITING – FRAMING from the film. You see one picture splitted in three frames in different sizes.

Another interesting point is that you see from the convict only the hand. His face and body is not shown. It is like by a good movie. That you show not all in the frame. The rest is in the phantasy of the viewer.

Ein weiteres Bild aus der Londoner Gallery, das mich beeindruckte. Fasziniert blieb ich stehen. Betrachtete die Aufteilung des Bildes. Wie im Filmschnitt spielt der Künstler mit verschiedenen Bildausschnitten. Als hätte er einen Film in verschiedenen Einstellungsgrößen aufgenommen.
Ein weiteres spannendes Detail ist, dass von dem Verurteilten nur die Hand zu sehen ist. Ich liebe Filme, in denen Dinge angedeutet werden. Der Rest der Handlung in der Vorstellung des Zuschauers passiert. Es gibt einige Filmbeispiele, ah, ich erinnere mich nie an die Filmtitel. Bei dem Thriller, ich glaube aus den 90ger, als ha welche Schauspielerin, die Beine übereinanderschlägt. Es gab eine riesen Diskussion hat sie eine Slip an oder ist sie nackt. Die Nacktheit im Kopf des Zuschauers hervorrufen ist die grosse Kunst. Finde ich.

The Four Times of Day | about 1858 | National Gallery London

Sorry at the first pic i wrote the death of the painter wrong. He died 1875 not as I wrote 1825. Jean-Baptist-Camille Corot verzeihe mir, ich habe ihn zu früh sterben lassen. Statt 1875 schlich sich der Fehlerteufel 1825 ein. Heute nennt man das ja postfaktisch. Nowadays you say to it: postfactal, what a mess.

Von den alten Meistern lernen. Beim Besuch in der National Gallery London war ich begeistert. Als Foto- und Videograf lernt man von den alten Meistern. Die Zeit reicht überhaupt nicht aus, sich alles in Ruhe anzusehen. In den nächster Zeit will ich ein paar Beispiele hier vorstellen. Ein wunderschönes Beispiel von dem Maler Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. Er lebte von 1796 – 1875. Unglaublich wie er das Licht über einen Tag einfing und malerisch umsetzte.

I´m faszinated from the light and shadow of the painture Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. He lived from 1796 until 1875. Unbelievable how he showed the changing light over one day. Take your time and have a look.

Thanks to the National Gallery London. It is allowed to take photo. Only no flash light. Of course flash destroys the color.

short film – kurzfilm

Meine Güte, ich komme gar nicht mehr hinterher.

Ich muss mir einfach angewöhnen, öfter zu schreiben. Was war, letzte Woche haben wir an einem Hammertag in einem tollen Team eine Szene aus unserer Kurzfilm Idee gedreht. Es ging darum gemeinsam zusammen zu arbeiten, zu sehen wir ticken und gemeinsame Erfahrungen sammeln. Dafür war es ein toller Dreh. Die Lichtstimmung haben wir trotz wenig Licht super hinbekommen.
Worin ich wirklich gut bin, ist Schauspielführung. Da kommen mir meine Jahre mit Schauspielausbildung sehr zu gute. Es war toll mit Lydia zu arbeiten.

Zwei Punkte will ich verbessern, den Konflikt einer Szene, die Entwicklung für die Figur in einer Szene noch klarer heraus arbeiten.
Zweitens, die Figur, der Charakter braucht etwas ausgewöhnliches, Normalität haben wir im Alltag genügen um uns herum. Dazu war die Szene ja geplant, gemeinsame Erfahrungen zu sammeln. Wie sagte mein Schauspiel Lehrer, geh auf die Bühne mache deine Impro, oder Spiel deine Szene, dann haben wir als Zuschauer und du als Darstelle eine Erfahrung gemacht und wir könnne gemeinsam darüber sprechen, aber nicht vorher. Das war es was wir ausprobierten. Es war super.

Remembering Shadows

Die Performance war interessant. Zuerst dachte ich, oh je, statt in einem Zimmer, den ich als Raum sah, gab es nur noch die Toilette. Ist auch ein Raum. Das Setting war spannend. Was nicht wirklich funktionierte war, mit der Mittelformat gute Schatten zu fotografieren. Ich musste von Draußen genau an einer Stelle die Fotos knipsen.
Eigentlich sollte der Besucher die Möglichkeit haben, den Platz im Raum für seinen Schatten selbst auswählen und bestimmen. Es funktionierte dennoch. Die abgelöste Emulsion des Polaroids hing ich an zwei Fäden am Treppenaufgang. War ne gute Idee. Was ich nicht berücksichtigte war die Schräge und, dass die Fotos leicht herunter rutschten. Learning by doing.

Ein Kompliment gab es für die schlichte und in sich stimmige Umsetzung.
